Products
We know that from every salon to every aisle of the supermarket you are bombarded with skin care advertising. Your skin care doesn’t need to be complicated. But we strongly believe that if you are going to pay for something, you should get the most from your purchase, by understanding the basics of dermatologic preparations, both prescription and nonprescription.
At DANV we take the time to review scientific and medical literature about skin care before offering products in our office. Many of them are inexpensive but hard to find. Others are “physician dispense only” because they have much higher levels of active ingredients than what you can purchase over the counter. Therefore use of these products will require a little guidance from our knowledgeable staff. Surprisingly, most of our products are less expensive than what is available commercially (and we cover the cost of your retail tax!)

Protection/Prevention
Sunscreens
We have a sunscreen for everyone. Hard to find products in many formulations make it hard for you to find an excuse not to use one!!! Not sure what you need? Just ask and we’ll explain the science of sun protection.

Antioxidants
You’ve heard this buzzword a lot, and so have we. So far the only ingredients that have some convincing evidence of penetrating and actively protecting the skin are Vitamin C and idebenone. But all topical products are not created equal—it is critical to use products that actually penetrate the skin and stay active for long periods. Higher concentrations do more.

Moisturizers
One simple step to take in protecting your skin everywhere is to moisturize daily. Good moisturizers help prevent itching, dryness and even eczema. Think about your hands and face in particular, which are constantly exposed to the elements. We have a comprehensive selection of preservative and perfume-free products for you to try.
Cleansing/Toning
Non-Irritating Cleansers
It can be a challenge to find cleansers that fit your skin type, especially if you have rosacea or very dry or sensitive skin. We’ll help you find the right product for now, and for every season. We stock preservative and perfume-free cleansers as well as other calming cleansers. For more information, visit: www.aveneusa.com
Exfoliating Cleansers
Sometimes a cleanser can help improve skin texture and tone, but overdoing it can lead to severe skin irritation. It’s a delicate balance we are happy to help you achieve. Various topical acids in low concentrations can help clear acne, uneven texture, and may even help with fine lines. For more information, visit: www.viviteskincare.com

Retinoids
All dermatologists agree that prescription Retin-A (generically called tretinoin) has changed the face of dermatology. We are consistently amazed with the many benefits Retin-A offers, including anti skin cancer,anti-acne and anti-aging effects. We know, however, that this treatment can be drying, so we often suggest compatible moisturizers and cleansers. If you just can’t tolerate Retin-A, we might start you off on better tolerated prescription or non-prescription "retinoids."

Fruit Acids
Alpha hydroxy and other naturally occurring acids have long drawn the attention of beauty experts. We now know they gently help smooth and brighten skin. This may be the best option for a first step skin rejuvenation regimen.
Growth Factors
This is a whole new category of proteins that are supposed to help build collagen. The scientific jury is still out, but many patients feel this is the least irritating of the anti aging options. In fact, many patients like this best for around the eyes.

Skin Care Kits
Fading Regimens
Certain skin care lines with their multiple steps used in conjunction with prescription Retin-A are the best option for intensive treatment of sun damage. In a few months, you’ll see dramatic improvement in unwanted pigmentation, rough skin texture and uneven tone. Once you’ve completed this regimen, your maintenance skin care can be simplified. For more information, visit: www.obagi.com
Brightening Regimens
Vitamin C and/or Alpha Hydroxy acids gently brighten and lighten skin. They are safe for long term use, and may be very effective as anti-aging agents. These skin care kits are easy to use combinations of cleanser, and daytime and evening moisturizers.

Acne Regimens
Dermatologists believe in the systemic approach to acne. All components (hormonal surges, oiliness, bacteria, etc) must be addressed. There is no doubt that prescription topical medications are proven to work. However, having complementary cleansers and moisturizers is helpful. Also, many patients may want to avoid prescriptions for many reasons including pregnancy and lactation. We have many options to fit your needs.
