Candela pulsed dye laser is used for skin treatment in Chantilly, Virginia
Patients with rosacea or redness are often at a loss for how to treat their symptoms. Topical treatments or facials may not effectively treat the problem. Advancements in laser technology now allow patients to have their skin treated easily, safely, and effectively. With locations in Centerville, Sterling, and Chantilly, Virginia, the physicians at Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, Inc. utilize the Candela pulsed dye laser for skin treatment of vascular or pigmented conditions of the skin.
The difference in a pulsed dye laser
Lasers use light or heat energy to treat targeted areas of the body. Pulsed dye lasers use a dye that generates different colors of laser beams. The energy then passes through the layers of the skin so it can be absorbed by oxyhemoglobin in the blood. The surrounding tissue is not damaged.
In use since the 1980’s to treat port wine birthmarks in young children, this laser has advanced. The Candela VBeam is now used to treat the following skin conditions:
- Spider veins
- Acne scarring
- Pigmented lesions
- Vascular lesions
Laser treatments are successful, safe ways to treat various skin issues. With the Candela VBeam, anesthetics are not necessary but may be used. The laser itself has a cooling method, DCD, to maintain patient comfort. DCD cools the skin before each laser pulse is emitted. The cooling sensation keeps the patient comfortable but also helps to protect against side effects such as redness.
The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient and is dependent upon the treatment area. For example, minimizing the appearance of blood vessels may require fewer treatments than treating pigmented skin or acne scars. Although side effects are generally mild and subside quickly, redness or swelling may occur. Bruising is less common but may occur.
