Dermatologist in Centreville answers, “What are skin peels?”
Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, Inc., wants everyone to have an effective skin care regimen. We believe people feel their best when their skin appears its best. Sometimes, cleansers and creams don’t address your needs. We often recommend a skin peel to help in these cases.
What are skin peels?
A skin peel is a skin resurfacing treatment. A chemical solution is applied to your face, penetrating and removing the top layer. This reveals healthier, smoother, and younger looking skin. Peels can treat wrinkles, skin discolorations, and surface scars, diminishing their appearance. We use skin peels of varying depths to ensure the results that you want.
Reasons we use skin peels:
- A light chemical peel removes cells from the epidermal layer of skin. We will recommend a light peel for fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone, and dryness. They can be performed every few weeks for desired results.
- A medium peel: This will remove skin cells from the top layer and from part of the upper part of your middle layer of skin. We will use a medium peel for deeper wrinkles and acne scars. This type can only be repeated once every twelve months.
- A deep chemical peel: This removes epidermal cells and portions of the mid to lower layer of skin. We will use this for deeper wrinkles or scars. We also use them for precancerous growths.
Dermatology Associates of Northern Virginia, Inc. has each new patient meet with a qualified, Board-certified member of the staff. During this meeting, individual skin care plans are created. If a peel is an option, we will review your medical history, inspect the skin to be treated and discuss what you hope to achieve from treatment.
